The Beach House Kitchen nominated for the ‘Beautiful Blogger’ and ‘Reader Appreciation’ Awards

The Beautiful Blogger Award

Another couple of wonderful award nominations have landed at the Beach House doorstep recently. We love ’em!
I’ve finally managed to get around to acknowledging this kindness.  We are putting both nominations onto one post due to the Beach House being full of busy at the moment.  Not enough time to cook, never mind type!

Karin Wiberg nominated us for the Beautiful Blogger Award, which is a real pleasure because we love Karens writing, especially the regular haiku’s that spring from her blog.  A wonderful place for creative writing and literary inspiration.  We’ve been called many things in the past, but never beautiful!  We are blushing up here in the hills.

Yoga with Maheswari nominated us for the Reader Appreciation Award.  Yoga with Maheswari is a really wonderful blog for positive vibrations of the yogic kind, wisdom and much bendiness.  One day we hope to attend a class and share a breath.

The rules of both awards basically the same:

  1. Thank the blogger who nominated you with a link.
  2. Copy and paste the award logo to your blog.
  3. Share seven things about yourself
  4. Nominate 5-10 bloggers for the award and notify them.

Seven things about ourselves:

1- Our front garden is being laid siege to by a particularly grotty group of feral street sheep.  These sheep are not pets and stare down oncoming traffic.  If they breech the dry stone walls, our tomatoes are in great peril.

2 – Our back garden is being laid siege to by a seemingly infinite number and vastly diverse range of ravenous slugs.  They are eating anything that lays down roots for too long and we fear they may be planning future raids on the veg drawer in our fridge, such is their devious and slimy nature.

3 – Our first green chilli bloomed yesterday on the windowsill, the same day as our first tomato.  A day when the sun actually shone for a while.

4 – Jane is Gemini, I am Taurus.

5 – Jane has recently taken courses in aromatherapy, mechanics, Spanish and woodworking at the local college.  I am allergic to the classroom environment.

6 – The Beach House may sound like an exotic location bathed in sunshine and bikinis, well, not quite.  We have had the worst summer in North Wales for the past 100 years and the Beach House may be more aptly named the House of the Rising Damp.

7 – Jane is a keen breeder of spider plants, we currently have at least one in each room and the ‘Mother’ is threatening to take over the front room (remember the film ‘Little Shop of Horrors’!)

Here are our nominations for ‘Beautiful Bloggers’ and what a gorgeous bunch they are.  We also feel that they deserve the ‘Reader Appreciation Award’, so we bestow that accolade on the below blogs also.  This may be bending the rules slightly, but richly deserved non-the-less.

I just wish I had the time to give them all a nice write-up, needless to say, they are all equally amazing places you should embrace, visit and enrich:

1 – Super Natural Life Enthusiast

2 – Byzantine Flowers

3 – Free Flow Foodie

4 – Moel Faban Supper Club

5 – Mother Nature Loves You

6 – Mumtopia

7 – The Bear and the Blackberry

8 – Kolpona Cuisine

9 – Travel Butterfly

10 – Veggie Nook

Big love and thanks to all Beach House readers, we will be posting more soon (things have been a little hectic of late).

Peace and Happiness,

Lee and JaneX

The Beach House Kitchen voted for a ‘Thought Provoking’ Blog Award

Lovely Ivelinax

Our dear Ivelina at ‘Mother Nature Loves You’ has kindly bestowed the B.H.K. with another little blog award, the ‘Thought Provoking’ Blog Award.  We love to receive these awards, especially from a wonderful lady like Ivelina.

Ivelina has created a very special space, where she conveys her wisdom and gifts on a daily basis.  Ivelina’s insight into living and her shining energy is a constant source of inspiration for us and we are blessed to have such a friend supporting the Beach House Kitchen.  Ivelina is also very knowledgeable about all things vibrant food and holistic living.  Thank you ‘Mother Nature’X

This award actually started off at my other blog ‘Riding Effortlessly On A Large Green Turtle’ a blog for travel, poetry, philosophy and whatever else I encounter along the way; but eventually found its way to the Beach House.  I have found so many great new blogs and like minded folk through such an award, I love to pass them on and spread the good word.  We hope you find the same!

At the Beach House Kitchen we aim to create a home for folk who love healthy vegetarian food, a place for vibrant ingredients and energies to mingle and create; a little hillside retreat from the grey modern world where we can add a little colour and spice to living, a place that nurtures body and mind.  We also have a very good laugh at the same time.

Here are a few foodie blogs that inspire us and get out thoughts flowing in the right direction (just a handful and in no particular order):

the bear and the blackberry – Beautiful vegan blog.

freeflowfoodie – Wonderful energy to be found here (and veggie bites)

the veggie nook –  Gabby is a real sweetie!

sacred strawberry – Emily writes from the heart and heat of Madrid

veganchopnchat –  Inspirational words and food abounds.

mumtopia – Many Mum’s join us in the BHK, it seems a great time in life for healthy food!  The is lovely Ali (Jane’s sisters) brilliant blog about all things motherhood.

travelbutterfly – Because we love travel and Savannah gives us wings!

lucysfriendlyfoods – Lucy has the luckiest family around.  Cordon Bleu treats and balancing a busy, busy lifestyle.  A real inspiration.

postpunkkitchen –  The PPK is a constant stream of amazing recipes and huge library of gorgeous dishes.

Peace the consciousness, the transitoriness, your existence – What is cooking without a little poetry?!  Beautiful words that light up our days.

Thank you to the whole blogging community for being so kind and supportive and enriching out lives.

Beach House Kitchen voted for ‘One Lovely Blog Award’

One lovely blog award

This is the best title for a blog award yet!  I love these awards, not only do you get a nice warm feeling inside, you also get to meet a whole bunch of shining individuals who can inspire you.  What a wonderful world this blog-sphere is.

Thank you so much to the wonderful veganmonologue for deeming us ‘lovely’ enough for this award. We do try our best!  The veganmonologue achieves something we can aspire to (I can get carried away with ingredients when I’m in the kitchen) gorgeous vegan food on a budget.  The pictures on this blog have the professional look that makes me actually feel like learning something about photography!  Having said that, we do live in a cloud up a hill.   Not the best light for a photo shoot.

7 facts about us

–  We share our garden with a cat named Buster who is one of the coolest creatures on the planet (tied with bees).  We have no idea where he came from, or where he’s going.

–  We plan on buying another little orange Honda motorbike and taking them to India, via Iran and Italy.  One day…when we are young.

–  The Beach House is actually nowhere near the beach!  But you can see it from the kitchen window (on a good day). You can also see Lover Peninsula and a lighthouse.  It is a magical land for sure.

–  We have a stone circle in our garden, we thought druids built it, but it was actually a lady at our local garden centre.  We still like it.

–  We would like to get rid of more things than we buy.  The Beach House is small and besides, our lives are too cluttered with ‘stuff’ as it is.

–  We believe in the power of positive thinking………….

–  We believe in the power of positive food…………

We have nominated these ‘Lovely’ Blogs, we haven’t trawled the internet for new sites, these are simply a selection of our favourites (who have no doubt received this award many times over).  They bring much sun and wonder food in equal measure (in no order at all):

emmycooks – emmy’s blog is so appetising, it makes me feel like eating my laptop.  Emmy’s blog inspires me to always be better cook and think more about flavours and presentation.  A real inspiration and sweetheart.

byzantine flowers – a blog about all things vibrant existence.  Full of important info that is not well reported and could be vital to our health.  A doorway to an ‘alternative’/ more natural lifestyle

almostrawvegan – surely the healthiest blog in the world!  wonderful smoothies and raw food ideas.  If you are thinking about eating more raw food, this site is a must read.

kolponacuisine – wonderful bright energy here and mouthwatering India food.  I can almost smell the spices and ghee floating all over the Atlantic from Seattle.

a little saffron – lleana is from Nicaragua, one of my favourite countries and her food is simply delicious to look at.

allotment2kitchen – or A2K, it’s a wonderful blog.  Now based in Wales, you will find seasonal dishes cooked beautifully, with photography to match.

veghotpot – One of my favourite blog folk, veghotpot is always lovely and here food is pretty damn fine too.  This is a place for real food and some great writing also.

vegetarian venture  – an absolutely gorgeous looking blog with veg food with beautiful recipes.  It really is a work of art!

The list ends here, as that’s all I have time for at the moment.   There many, many more lovely blogs I can think of, but its late and my eyes are going square.

The Rules of One Lovely Blog:

• Link back to the blogger who nominated you

• Paste the award image on your blog, anywhere

• Share 7 facts about yourself

• Nominate 5-15 other blogs you like for this award (last time it was 5, this time it’s 15…so do what you can.)

• Contact the bloggers that you have chosen to let them know that they have been nominated

What a wonderful blog world we are in!   Spread the love……
Happy days,
Lee and JaneX
PS – 8/7/12  We’ve just been voted for this lovely award again, by the fabulous

The Beach House Kitchen nominated for the Versatile Blogger Award

The nominations are coming in thick and fast this month!  Hooray.

We are really happy to see people reading and enjoying the blog and to get a nomination for anything, makes it even more special.

Thanks to More Than Greens for the vote, it’s a relatively new blog, but already there are some very tasty recipes to be found and lovely pictures of all things vegetal.  We love their moto:

There’s so much more to vegetarianism that rabbit food…

The Versatile Blogger Award is a great way of meeting other like-minded bloggers and getting folk to have a look at your pages (I believe it is known as ‘traffic’).

The rules for the Versatile Blogger are as follows:

If you are nominated, you’ve been awarded the Versatile Blogger award.

  •  Thank the person who gave you this award
  •  Include a link to their blog
  •  Select 15 blogs/bloggers that you’ve recently discovered or follow regularly
  •  Nominate those 15 bloggers for the Versatile Blogger Award
  •  Finally, tell the person who nominated you 7 things about yourself

Fifteen blogs I’ve recently discovered:

I love all of these blogs, but unfortunately don’t have time today to write individually about each one.   There is an incredible amount of talent and delicious looking food here.  You’ll find these blogs nestled in our ‘links’ column on the right hand side of the screen.

I’ve chosen only food blogs and those that I hope have not been nominated before (in no particular order):

–  Allotment 2 Kitchen

–  Bananas and Beans

–  Fig and Fork

–  Fork and Beans

–  Heathy Belly Ellie

–  Mother Nature Loves You

–  The Hearty Herbivore

–  Vegetarian Ventures

–  Emmy Cooks

–  Kolpona Cuisine

–  The Post Punk Kitchen

–  The Lab Kitchen

–  The Vogue Vegetarian

–  Turning Veganese

–  The Raw Warung

–  Celery and Cupcakes

 The Farmers Market Foodie

Seven things (not all interesting) you may not know about me:

–  I haven’t always had a beard

–  I play the guitarlele with gusto

–  I always prefer hazelnuts (or cashews)

–  I’m eating only raw food this June

–  I love all things bean and bean related

–  I have just completed our veg patch (watch this space for blooming info)

–  I one day dream of making my own wine (proper wine with grapes that is)

The Beach House Kitchen

Thanks again to More Than Greens for the kind nomination.

Happy blogging and munching,

Lee and JaneX

Beach House Kitchen voted for a ‘Kreativ Blogger Award’

This is a beautiful thing, fellow bloggers VegHotPot and Lucy’s Friendly Foods have nominated us for a Kreativ Blogger Award.

We are understandably chuffed to receive such a kind nomination from two top bloggers.  I love their blogs, so it’s extra special that they like what is going on in the Beach House Kitchen.

The Kreativ Blogger Award is designed to get good bloggers together and spreading the word about each other.  I think it’s a top idea.

Here are the rules:

  • Thank the nominating blogger and provide a link to that blog.
  • Spread the love by nominating seven other bloggers, including their links here.
  • Tell your readers seven things they may not already know about you.
Here goes……………

Seven Blogs we like (alot and in no particular order):

We have only chosen food blogs (for obvious reasons) and only ones that are relatively new.  There are some amazing, established food blogs, but they seem to be doing just fine…..

I think some of these blogs may have been nominated before, but you can never get too many nominations for being Kreativ (can you?!)

1)  Byzantine Flowers  –  Brilliant for all-rounder for all things wholesome and organic.  Interesting articles all the way here, one of the sites I visit regularly.

2)  Vegetarian Ventures  –  The photos here are nearly as beautiful as the veggie recipes.  Lovely looking blog and well written articles.

3)  Moel Faban Supper Club – Denise’s blog is always an interesting read, a real foodie’s blog.  Our local Welsh supper club and a champion of local and seasonal produce.

4)  Tofu and Flowers –  Abigail gives us a real flavour of Thailand here.  Great stories and pics.

5)  Peas and Love –  Gwen’s blog ever fails with gorgeous looking veggie and vegan bites.  You will also find things ‘freegan’ bits here.

6)  AlmostRawVegan  – Great inspiration here for our coming Raw food month in June.  A lovely looking site with brilliant smoothie recipes.

7) Emmycooks –  I just love the way Emmy cooks!

Seven interesting things about Jane and I (again in no particular order):

1)  We met on a small island beach in the Philippines, I was accidentally evicting Jane from her room at the time.  Jane was suffering from horrific facial sun burning (known as panda bear eyes).

2)  Our first meal together was a tiny plate of cold veg fried rice, cooked by a disgruntled Belgian fella wearing tight trunks with Kraftwerk blaring from a stereo.

3)  Jane was initially attracted to me because I had several pots of yoghurt stashed  in my rucksack (a very impressive feat in Asia)…..

4)  ….I used these yoghurts to woo Jane at breakfast, atop coconut and mango porridge, cooked in a bamboo hut.  The rest is culinary history………..

5)  I flew all the way from Mumbai to be with Jane in the Beach House and set up the Beach House Kitchen (giving up a lucrative career in dodgy English teaching in Hanoi!!!).

6)  Jane is addicted to potatoes Lee is partial to a bean.  You will always find hummus in our fridge and oatcakes in our pockets.  Jane also likes hunks (of mouldy cheese).

7)  The population of Carmel, our village, is around 90 and has approximately three sheep to one person.  These sheep terrorize us with their munching and are an enemy to all raspberry patches.

Thanks to Becky and Lisa for the nominations and happy blogging to one and all.
